Melbourne was great and on our last day we came across the excellent New Internation Bookshop which had many books I already owned and many more that I wish I owned. We met Seb there who was putting together interview questions for the nights author talk with Anna Krien who has just released a book called Into the Woods: The battle for Tasmania's forests.
So Seb if ur reading this leave a comment!
The talk was very interesting and I've only read the first 100 pages but plan to get through it quickly after the overland. By the sounds of things it might be better if we hold off putting our new bumper sticker on which says 'May the forest be with you' until after we leave Tasmania.
Our Plan:
Phone and internet is sketchy here. We're on our way to Cradle Mountain. There we will pick up our national parks pass and then drive to Lake St Clair and spend the night there. In the morning we are getting a charter bus service with Maxwells back to Cradle Mountain to begin our 7 day Overland walk. The charter cost $400. It was either that or to catch 3 buses for $290 to get back to our car and spend extra money because we'd have to stay in Launceston overnight because not all the bus services link up. So pretty expensive considering it cost $120 each to actually do this walk in the peak period (so we don't freeze!).
We'll be following the track and the regular schedule up until Day 5 where we'll extend.
On day 6 we'll leave Burt Nichols Hut (formerly Windy Ridge Hut) and head for Pine Valley to explore and stay where there is a hut there.
Day 7 we'll head to Narcssus Hut which is back on the main track then catch the ferry over Lake St Clair to Cynthia Bay where we left our car. Good luck!!!
After Overland we have no plans as yet. probably go to a caravan park to wash our clothes!!
sounds good guys, enjoy the walk, Cradle Mountain is beautiful.
